An autoimmune disorder is a condition that occurs when the immune system mistakenly attacks and destroys healthy body tissue. There are more than 80 different types of autoimmune disorders. Autoimmune diseases arise from an overactive immune response of the body against substances and tissues normally present in the body. In other words, the body actually attacks its own cells.
The immune system mistakes some part of the body as a pathogen and attacks it. This may be restricted to certain organs (e.g. in chagas disease) or involve a particular tissue in different places (e.g. Goodpasture's disease which may affect the basement membrane in both the lung and the kidney).
The symptoms of autoimmune disease vary depending on the disease as well as the person's immune system. Common symptoms include:
• Anxiety or depression
• Blood sugar changes
• Digestive or gastrointestinal problems
• Dizziness
• Elevated fever and high body temperature
• Extreme sensitivity to cold in the hands and feet
• Fatigue
• Infertility or reduced sex drive (low libido)
• Inflammation
• Irritability
• Low or high blood pressure
• Malaise
• Weakness and stiffness in muscles and joints
• Weight Changes
The disease process involved is similar to Amavata in Ayurvedic classics. Any kind of disease condition created due to complex of intermediate metabolite & vata are termed as Amavata in Ayurveda.
Other disease conditions under the pathogenesis Amavata can be SLE [systemic Lupus Erythematous], Ankolysing spondylitis, Sjogren’ syndrome, Scleroderma [systemic sclerosis], mixed connective tissue disease, IBS, Nephrotic syndrome this process of disease genesis can manifest in any organ / system.
• This type of disease complex can be controlled, contained & involved pathogenesis can be reversed; Dr. Prasher studied some herbs useful at different stage of the diseases & keeping in view the basic constitution of the diseased based on authentic approach described in CharaSamhita.
The herbal extracts are mixed for each patient based on his nature after complete analysis. The effective herbs for Amavata are Rasna, nirgundi, ashvagandha, Bhallataka, haritaki, ajmoda, vaishvanar, alambhusha, guggulu, ashishrinkhala, amrita, shunthi& eranda etc.
